2014

Here you can see the biggest hair trends for this spring and summer. Be inspired and have fun!

Accessories

The look: A cute, girlie touch can soften the other hair trends - such as wet-look shine or flat side partings - and an accessory is the easiest way to do it. There were leather wraps and clips on the catwalks, but our fave take on this trend is with bold bows. Alexa Chung’s doing it already – of course.

Edgy bobs
The look: Bobs have been brewing for multiple seasons but for 2014 they’re edgy. Short fringes and striking colours make up the trend’s DNA. One for the beauty brave.

Mermaid waves
The look: Glossy, nautical waves are the new look for beachy blondes this year. Both clean and wet-look textures work and a centre-parting look current.
The shows: Diane von Furstenberg (left) more structured, Calvin Klein looser, J Mendel (right) glossy

Messy plaits
The look: Plaits are the tress trend that keeps on coming and we’re not complaining. This season they’re either glossy or matte, but always messy. Handy for those of us who aren’t perfectionists!

Retro curls
The look: The 70s are major for Spring/Summer and the way to tackle the trend is with retro curls. The look has a modern twist with low side partings (did we mention they were a trend?) and they’re completely frizz-free.

True romance
The look: If you’re looking for wedding and party hair inspiration call off the search. The trend for ethereal, dreamy up-dos are IN. Take a laidback approach to it for effortless romance.
The shows: Erdem (left), Temperley (right)

High shine
The look: This is killer shine, almost wet but glossy not greasy. From gelled sides to slicked-back roots this flat-to-the-head look works well when it leads into a sleek low ponytail or with loose lengths revealing a contrasting matte texture.
The shows: Kenzo (left), House of Holland (right) and Ashley Williams

Extreme side partings
The look: Androgyny is having a moment but the trend for the 1930s-inspired boyish comb-over actually oozes confidence and can look super-sexy.
The shows: Stella McCartney (pictured), Pucci, Fendi, Dior, Erdem

Slept-in texture
The look: Lived-in locks are huge for Spring/Summer ’14. At Topshop Unique they were rougher than beachy waves, while at Balmain they were soft and sleepy. The key is making this look undone, but well done.

Sporty
The look: Victoria Beckham has proved you don’t have to wear trainers to nail the sports luxe look. From stretchy headbands at her show, to blinging visors at Marni, the trend for workout wear as hair accessories was much more chic than eek. We love it when fashion is practical as well as pretty.
