Herbs for healthy hair!





Horsetail is an herb, which can be used if you experience hair loss. It contains the silica and selenium, which strengthens the connective tissue, and hair roots as well as the keratin and promotes hair growth.

How to use it; use horsetail as a tea or take pure silica as a dietary supplement.



Rosemary is an herb, which stimulates the blood circulation and thereby improves hair growth. It is perfect for massaging the scalp to strengthen the hair and make it appear shiny and healthy.

How to use it; use a shampoo which contains rosemary or apply a few drops of an essential oil diluted in coconut-, olive- or castor oil and to the scalp and massage for a few minutes before washing your hair.



Sage is an herb, which can help if you experience dandruff.

How to use it; use sage as a tea and make an extract of 2 tbs sage and 5 dl water. Leave it for 5 – 10 minutes and sieve the tea. Drench through the hair every morning and night and leave it in. For best effect this should be repeated for 2 – 3 weeks. Note; not suitable for light blonde hair because it can make the hair darker. It is also recommended to drink sage tea several times during the day.



Aloe Vera can help if you experience hair loss, and is also effective against wounds in the scalp.

How to use it; use a shampoo which contains aloe vera, or use a few drops of concentrated aloe vera which you can massage into the scalp before washing your hair.



Tea-tree is an effective herb for greasy hair. It is naturally anti-bacterial and can reduce dandruff from fungal infections.

How to use it; use a shampoo which contains tea-tree oil or massage a few drops of an essential oil into the scalp before washing your hair.



Buckthorn has been suggested to be effective against hair loss in men.

How to use it; include whole or crushed seeds in your diet, or buy capsules with extract of buckthorn. You can drink it as an herbal tea where you use 2 tbs seeds and 2.5 dl water. Pour cold water over the seeds let it soak for 5 hours. Heat the mix to boiling point and leave it for 1 minute before sieve the seeds from the water. Drink 2 – 3 cups daily.



Lavender is a naturally anti-bacterial and calming herb, which also promotes healing of a sore scalp.

How to use it; use a shampoo which contains lavender or use a few drops of an essential oil which you massage into the scalp before washing your hair.





Keep in mind that individuals may react allergic to herbs, hence you should always be careful trying herbs or essential oils for the first time.
